Should Be Mostly Propagated

The working overstream.net on the new server should be visible to most users now. If you still see "Under Maintenance", try closing the browser and opening a new one.

Everything seems to be working fine. If you notice any strange things, please tell me (e.g. by commenting here).

By the way, the previous server had a problem with sending emails (because of the broken clock a lot of its emails would get thrown out by the mail routers). If you registered within the last week but still haven't received your code, try resending it now via this link.

I am having some problems with my emails at the moment actually (e.g. contact at overstream.net), this will be the last thing to be fixed.

I am not sure why but i still cannot get onto the site.I just get a "page cannot be displayed".

Hmm, strange. At the very least you should be seeing the maintenance page... did you try closing all the browsers, and then opening a new one? Maybe reboot also just in case?

If all else fails, try this (I am assuming you are on Windows):

* Start > Run
* Paste "notepad c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts" (without the ") into the field, hit enter.
* A text file will open. It will have

127.0.0.1 localhost

in it. Right below that, put

67.192.36.22 www.overstream.net

Save the file (Ctrl-S or File>Save).

Open a new browser and try it now.

Wow, very strange! That trick with notepad should definitely make sure the IP is correct... which browser are you using? Maybe try a different browser (if you have Internet Explorer, try it with Firefox (easy to install, and nice to have on your computer just in case Internet Explorer doesn't work)).

Well other than that I am really out of ideas. Do you get the "page cannot be displayed" when you go to http://www.overstream.net/ ? Or some page inside the site?

Ha! Well, it's awesome that it finally worked :) Just the thought of Firefox made it work :D

Our IT guy Paul also suggests doing Start > Run and then type "ipconfig /flushdns" (without quotes). Maybe that will help those still having the problems...

oh no!!! ok, so, overstream worked for me yesterday then all of a sudden when i am going to next video it stopped again.. and i can't go to overstream again!! i didn't even get to arron's part =(

Overstream said...

Wow, damn :( But you are saying that you tried that trick with

* Start > Run
* Paste "notepad...

etc. from up above? And even so it STILL doesn't work? This I can't understand at all...

Anonymous said...

yes, it STILL doesn't work.. i tried to watch TKA at mysoju and the videos of TKA there are from overstream and they also don't work for me.. so it is not just the site that i cant open it is also the videos!! aaah!!

(hope u dont mind the idea of me watching it at mysoju..lolz)

Of course I don't mind. The thing that I don't understand is - the problem appears to be with your computer / internet provider incorrectly resolving the ip address for "www.overstream.net". However, putting that line "67.192.36.22 www.overstream.net" into
c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts file tells your computer to only use the right IP address for www.overstream.net, so I can't understand why it wouldn't work for you!!!

OK, do this: Start > Run, then type "cmd", Enter. In the black window that comes up, type "nslookup www.overstream.net" (without the "). Tell me what you get as response. (I think you can highlight and then press Enter in that window to Copy).

And also - which Windows are you using?

Non-authoritative answer:

C:\Users\*my dad's name*>

this is what i got.. i erased my dad's name! lol.. and i have no idea what windows im using..

Yep, the IP address seems to be correct. I think that's Windows Vista. Strange that this would be happening... Well I am going to ask out IT guy about this.

In the meantime, the only thing I can suggest is installing Firefox and trying it with that...

Anonymous said...

yeah i also think it's windows vista.. THANK YOU VERY MUCH for helping me!! u dont know how touch i am right now..lolz.. and sorry for bothering you.. u r so great!!! how can i compensate u?!? haha

Overstream said...

If you can watch TKA on overstream it will be compensation enough :) Did you try installing Firefox (link above)? Because I am out of ideas...

aaaahhh!!! i still cant get onto the site.. i already installed firefox.. =( my laptop is really weird!! i feel like throwing it right now! but i dont think it's my laptop because i tried to get into the site through my iPhone and it also does not work.. but normally it does! something weird is going on!

Overstream said...

Super-weird indeed! When you use your iPhone, does it happen through the same internet provider as when you use the laptop? I am starting to think that maybe your internet provider just blocked that IP address of the overstream server?

Anonymous said...

yes.. they have the same internet provider.. i think it has something to do with it because im using our pc right now and it also does not work.. what can i do??? plz tell me there is something i can do..

Overstream said...

Well, you could call up Comcast (I think you are using Comcast from the info you provided) and ask them why you can't see this website called "www.overstream.net" (IP address 67.192.36.22), when everyone else seems to be able to see it just fine. I think this is some glitch in their system, because comcast is a huge provider, so a lot of other people would be having problems with the site if they simply decided to blacklist it. So, it's probably something local.

Which gives me another idea of a thing to try - find your cable modem and reboot it (pull out the power cord, wait several seconds, then put it back in). If you also have a router (like a linksys), do the same with it also just in case. I am thinking since this problem is so local to you, it might be just a glitch in either the cable modem or the router...

Anonymous said...

yeah.. we do have a cable modem and a router as well.. but what would happen if i will reboot those?? because im afraid to do it.. maybe i will tell my dad to do it for me.. i will tell if it is working already! =)
