Back from Vacation / YouTube Probs Fixed

As many of you have noticed, Overstream had some problems playing YouTube videos for the last 3 days or so. Of course, this just had to happen when I was away :) Well, I am back now, and everything should be working again.

I'm finding that overstream is loading very slowly today.
Is this a problem for anyone else?

Unknown said...

I have the same problem.
The loading is, as times goes by, each hour more slowly.
I hope you can fix this poblem.
Thanks.

Our IT guy Paul think this has to do with overstream.net being hit by some automated scripts. We will try to do something about this ASAP.

The very slow loading of the overstream is still there.

Paul has found something today having to do with malconfigured logging on the server, which caused the log file to grow very large and thus potentially caused some of the slowdown. The server has been reconfigured, which I think made things better already, with some more benefits possibly coming tomorrow (as the server enters the next day the configuration changes might have more effect). If you notice any changes in performance, please do report - this information is helpful in gauging the effects of the changes we are trying.

Now is everything OK again.
Thanks for everyone. Mostly for Paul.

No, the site is still unacceptably and ridiculously slow. The code needs to be optimized quite heavily, we are working on it as fast as possible. Sorry for such poor site performance ;(

It is again very, very, very slow.

Overstream said...

Yes, it is :( We are aware of this and trying to do something, however it's not clear how long it will take before our efforts produce results. Sorry :(

Today the oversteam site (http://www.overstream.net) is offline.

I hope the problem is quickly solved.

Thanks

Site seems to work fine right now, I guess it was some kind of a temporary problem?

The overstream site stills doesn't open.
It seems as it is not online.
The overstream player is a blank spot.

Now everything is working well again.

Thanks for your work.

Well we didn't do anything AFAIK... and I haven't seen anything wrong with the site, and no one else said anything. Hmmm... is it possible it's some connectivity problem that only affects your area? This is very strange. You tried it in 2 different browsers (e.g. Firefox and IE) just to make sure it's not a strange browser glitch?

Unknown said...

I didn't try different browsers.
But i think that it wasn't any browser glitch.
The site was inacessible during sunday (August 3) and today early in the mornig (August 4) - GMT time -
Now is everything OK as i said before.

Strange, I'll ask Paul (our IT guy) to look into possible reasons for this outage. Thanks for reporting it!

Overstream said...

Paul says server traffic logs look normal for that time period, indicating no outage on the server side. Maybe some strange glitches in your internet provider, Carlos? Were you the only one who got this, or do you know some others as well?

Unknown said...

I don't know anyone who got the same problem.
It's strange!

I can't acess www.overstream.net.

The embeded overstream players of my annotated videos in my blog http://ensinofisicaquimica.blogspot.com/ are only a blank area on the screen.

I return today from vacation and i have been away from computers and internet, so i dot not know if it is a recent problem.

I tried with IE and with Mozilla Firefox and the same problem persists.

I got a network timeout also

I have no idea what caused this, but I rebooted the server and now things seem to be back to normal. I will ask Paul the IT guy to investigate this.

Thank you for your reports!

Now everything is normal again.

The overstream site is OK!

The overstream player loads very well.
